Tesla Powerwall Cost
The total cost to install a Tesla Powerwall+ battery system is $11,500 as of August 2022.
Despite Tesla's claim that the cost of the Tesla Powerwall will drop in half over the next three years, we've seen the price of the Powerwall quadruple, eventually reaching its current price.
Not only that, Tesla no longer sells their Powerwall separately, so if you buy a Powerwall directly from Tesla, the total amount you have to pay will be the price of the Powerwall and the price of the new solar panel system. You can still buy the Powerwall yourself from a local company, but on the downside, buying a Powerwall from someone other than Tesla means you're not guaranteed the $11,500 price.
Tesla may also require you to upgrade your electrical panels before installing the Powerwall, which could add $2,500 to your installation (a cost Tesla didn't mention at all in its original online price estimate).
Is the Tesla Powerwall eligible for any incentives or rebates?
Yes, the Tesla Powerwall does qualify for battery storage incentives available in the US
The biggest incentive is the federal solar tax credit, which will reduce Powerwall installation costs by 30 percent.
In addition to federal tax credits, some states and utilities offer additional rebates and incentives. In some cases, rebates such as California's SGIP incentives and Green Mountain Power's BYOD program in Vermont can cover nearly 90 percent of the total cost of installing a Powerwall.
How much does a Tesla Powerwall cost?
The Tesla Powerwall cost $8,500 before installation. The Powerwall battery alone costs a whopping $7,500, and its supporting hardware costs $1,000. Add in installation costs, and a complete system installation for a Powerwall typically ranges from $12,000 to $16,500 (before government-subsidized tax credits).
This cost figure includes batteries, inverters, solar modules, various other equipment costs and estimated installation costs. The cost of installing a battery isn't as simple as finding a single Tesla Powerwall. Depending on your electrical setup and other factors, installation costs can vary widely.
If you want to install the Powerwall as part of a solar-plus-storage system, the actual Tesla Powerwall cost is only part of the equation. A 5 kilowatt (kW) solar system can cost anywhere from $9,000 to $15,000, depending on where you live and the type of equipment you choose.
Cost of tesla powerwall (8/buy multiple)
Tesla Powerwalls range from $11,500 to $64,500, depending on how many Powerwalls you want to install. Generally speaking, most homes need at least 2 to 4 days of power autonomy in the event of a prolonged power outage, depending on your electricity usage, about 1 to 2 Tesla Powerwalls.

That might sound like a lot of money, but installing a solar-plus-storage system and a Tesla Powerwall could be a worthwhile investment. Whether a Tesla Powerwall makes sense for you depends on how your power company structures its rates, and why you're installing solar cells.
For example, if you want to be energy independent and be able to install multiple Powerwall batteries for added energy storage, investing in one is worth the time and money. It also provides peace of mind during power outages and natural disasters, and it minimizes your carbon footprint.
In some cases, depending on where you live, you may be able to get financial incentives that can reduce the cost of home energy storage installations. For example, if you live in California, you can get cash rebates that cover most of your home battery costs through the Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP). Other states, like Massachusetts, are also in the early stages of evaluating battery storage performance incentives, and some are already offering cash rebates to offset Tesla Powerwall costs.
Powerwall batteries cost £5,400 per unit with a £400 deposit up front.
However, there is an additional £500 for supporting hardware, for a total of £5,900 (including VAT). However, that doesn't include the cost of installing it in your home, which Tesla estimates to be between £800 and £2,000.

---|---|
Upfront Deposit | £400 |
Supporting Hardware | £500 |
Installation | £800 – £2,000 |
Total Cost (before installation) | £5,900 |
Total Cost (with installation) | £6,700 – £8,700 |
Other costs that may be considered include any electrical work that needs to be done and, if a new system is introduced, installing solar panels on the roof.
Average cost of a Tesla Powerwall
Tesla Powerwalls cost $10,500 each, including $1,500 in solar and Powerwall discounts. This price includes installation, the battery itself, and the gateway. As part of your system purchase, you may also be entitled to additional local government incentives, such as tax rebates, to further reduce your Powerwall costs. Much depends on your location.

Total price of Tesla Powerwall installation
The true cost of a Tesla Powerwall installation is significantly higher than the cost of the battery and its installation alone. That's because, as of 2022, Tesla Powerwalls can only be purchased as part of a Tesla solar system. This adds significantly to the cost whether you choose a panel system or a solar roof system.
Tesla power wall Panel System
A small Tesla solar panel system with a 4.80 kW panel and a Powerwall will cost you $20,000 (excluding incentives and rebates). After applying the discount, you may pay $15,000 or less, depending on your location. This provides an estimated energy offset of 55%, assuming low to moderate household energy use. And it provides enough energy storage for a day's worth of backup power, but not enough to power large 240V appliances for extended periods of time.
Energy usage is higher for the same size home, or you need more backup power or off-grid capability, you can buy a Tesla solar system with 19.20kW panels and four Powerwalls. This will set you back $70,000 before discounts and, depending on your location, $50,000 or less after applying these rebates and incentives.
A system of this size provides 200% energy compensation for moderate to heavy energy use households, so even after a full battery, you can sell excess energy back to your local utility provider to further maximize your savings savings. Even running multiple large appliances, this solar system size will provide enough stored energy for 12 days of entire home backup.
Tesla power wall Roof System
A small solar roof system costs $60,000 before subsidies and $42,000 or less afterward. For a property of this size, the system will include a Powerwall and an 8.67Kw solar tile roof for 100% (or more) energy compensation. This will give you up to three days of backup power for your entire home, but you'll struggle to run large appliances for long periods of time.
A larger system with more storage costs $80,000 before discounts and $60,000 or less after discounts. This includes four Powerwall units and an 8.67Kw solar tile roof. It will provide 100% or more energy subsidy and 12 days of whole home backup, including the ability to confidently run large appliances.
The cost of the Tesla Powerwall includes tax deductions and deductions, installation costs (solar module inverters and installation costs), the initial investment is very large, but consider the cost of electricity costs and the impact of loss of power outages, and excess power sold to the government Electricity can be profitable, and after a comprehensive measure, the Tesla Powerwall cost is worth it.
